What do you do when you’ve created a brand new product and not many people are buying???

Well you distribute free samples, of course!

So, Red Bull gave us a few crates of their new Cola.

I’ve never done a cola review before; forgive me if I get the technicalities wrong

The tins are larger than the usual Red Bull ones and contain 355ml of cola. Their height and the contrasting Blue & Red colours on it are sure to make it stand out in the retail outlets while the Bull cut-out on the opener is neat touch.

The drink seems slightly less sugary than the ones you’d buy from their competitors and having had a few cans of the new Pepsi RAW, I can definitely say, this seems a bit less sweet.

You can really taste the cardamom and that’s the first thing your tongue tastes and brain senses, followed by the deep cola taste. The sensation of the bubbles on the tongue is very different as well – probably due to the caffeine levels in this drink. The Strong & Natural printed on the front of the face does seem true after you’ve had a few sips. The drink tastes quite different over the other colas as its less sweet & thumping dense cola taste to it. A bit bitter too. I guess there’s no easy way to describe it – you’ve got to have yourself to realize how different it is.

Verdict: While I’m not a big cola drinker – mainly due to the sugar levels in other drinks, I’m pretty happy to recommend a drink of this if you’ve never tasted natural colas before. However, if you’ve tried the Pepsi RAW and hated it, please don’t.

Public domain info:

A can of Red Bull Simply Cola contains:
* Water
* Sugar
* Carbon dioxide
* Natural caramel color
* Natural flavors from plant extracts (0.37%): galangal, vanilla, mustard seed, lime, kola nut, cocoa, liquorice, cinnamon, lemon, ginger, coca leaf, orange, corn mint, pine, cardamom, mace, clove, and lemon juice concentrate
* Caffeine from coffee beans.

Red Bull Simply Cola also has slightly more caffeine, at 45 milligrams per 355ml (12-ounce) can, than Coca-Cola (34 mg) or Pepsi-Cola (37.5 mg), but less than Diet Coke (47 mg) or Pepsi One (54 mg) or Mountain Dew (54 mg). The cola contains significantly less caffeine than Red Bull’s eponymous energy drink (80 mg per 8.2 ounces). It also lacks the artificial flavors, colors, and phosphoric acid commonly used in commercial colas.
